THE CHINESE ONLINE SHOPPING DESTINATIONS
China has recently become the largest e-commerce market in the world, notably thanks to the popularity of Taobao, an eBay-like platform.
Slightly shifting from a C2C to a B2C model, the Chinese online shopping market has a key specificity: the predominance of marketplaces such as Tmall, Jingdong (JD), YihaoDian (YHD) which have become the natural shopping places for most of Chinese online shoppers.
Tmall has always been the market leader holding over 50% market share, yet, each platform has their specialty and their market share largely vary based on product category.
Since favorable changes in the local regulation, import cross-border has recently boomed in China. Some platforms have emerged such as Tmall Global and Jingdong Worldwide, allowing Chinese consumers to easily purchase online overseas products.
